Otterbein's Summer Ceramic Institute.
I have participated in Otterbein's Summer Ceramic Institute, an annual two-week intensive studio program that gives artists and educators

the opportunity to earn college credit and work in a hands-on environment with nationally renowned ceramic artists. The summer institute of 2010, featured artist Tom Bartel, assistant professor at Ohio University. I also had the opportunity to work along side other renown artists during the institute: Janis Mars Wunderlich and Juliellen Byrne. During the summer of 2009, Otterbein University hosted the summer institute featuring artist Scott Dooley, currently Assistant Professor of Art at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. |
Service Learning.
During my coursework at Otterbein University I was a participant in a pilot group with AmeriCorps service-learning project, and completed the coursework for, "Helping Students Create Their Legacies, Level 1."
While working with AmeriCorp for the several months, incorporating Service Learning in my own teaching curriculum and collaborating with other educators in multiple fields, my final presentation reflected what legacy meant to me and how I have seen it. I selected a family that embraced and encompassed their family's history. I had seen traditions, heard stories, and have seen the things the family still did today because of the actions of one individual. I was inspired that one individual could make such a difference and how decade after decade her influences would never be forgotten. I asked the family to share with me how each generation was impacted, the things they remembered, and maybe what they carry on because of her. To commemorate her life and influences I dedicated two pieces of artwork that was a reflection of how one individual can impact one generation after the next.
